Finding dark-wave musicians in our country is a task requiring the penetrating eyes of Bela Lugosi. The truth is that there’s never been fertile ground for this genre in the Czech music but much more good news is that the situation has recently been changing for the better even in our country. Of all current dark-wave bands on the Czech scene, Phosgene Girls formed by musicians from Pardubice and Přelouč is the most distinct and promising. We have already had several opportunities to see them performing live (e.g., as a support band at the concert of Apoptygma Berzerk or The Birthday Massacre). Both at concerts and on their début album Sunrise Hero they’ve proven themselves as talented hitmakers of dark music (in the best sense of the word) with the gift to create songs with a wide range of expressive layers that are interesting both from the point of view of the sound as well as arrangement. Still, the best thing about this band is its ability to give a convincing live performance.
