The Croatian scene has had five years with a band that assumes the heritage of ‘Gypsy swing’ – music, whose father is the French Romani guitarist, Django Reinhardt. His music in the band, which had yet another instrumental genius, the violinist Stéphane Grapelli, was in fact a specific European response to the great overseas boom of jazz in 1930’s and 40’s.
It is music that has become increasingly popular nowadays, as seen from the global success of ZAZ, and Repassage deliver it heartily with style, yet in a young, authentic spirit. This is no plain revival.
