The idea to form a new ensemble that would conquer music stages worldwide occurred after a weekend party two years ago. Such was the beginning of Smelly Bears, a guys-only, guitar trio with the name deriving from the then mental and physical shape of the members. Fearing the most unscrupulous of girl fans, Bára joined the band to keep an eye on Hrnec; as there is one thing she can do well, she brought her violin along. Two of the founders would later find the steep rise of the band unsupportable, reducing the original quartet only to Bára and Hrnec. However, the name Smelly Bears kind of stuck. We have been a two-person team for about a year; this is our toddler stage, so to speak. There have been some minor gigs in our hometowns and pubs in Žižkov. Hrnec’s creative genius keeps our repertoire growing. We haven’t quite figured the classification of our style. So we have come up with one of our own: ‘funnyfolk’.
